In Pokémon Legends: Z-A, battles unfold in real time rather than the traditional turn-based format. Both the player and their Pokémon can freely move around in 3D space, allowing for dynamic combat where dodging attacks, timing, and positioning play crucial roles in achieving victory. The game also marks the return of Mega Evolution, a fan-favorite feature first introduced in Pokémon X and Y. Players will once again be able to collect Mega Stones and harness the powerful transformations they enable. However, this time, “rogue” Mega-Evolved Pokémon may appear throughout the city — powerful, uncontrollable foes that require strategy and skill to subdue in thrilling, boss-like encounters. At the start of the adventure, players can choose one of three partner Pokémon: Chikorita, Tepig, or Totodile, each offering a unique path and playstyle as they explore the revitalized Lumiose City.
